Real Evil

Cori Dauber at Rantingprofs points out this Washington Post article: Security Tight After Beheading of 3 Indonesian Girls

The bodies of the girls, dressed in brown school uniforms, were left at the site of the attack. Their heads were found at separate locations two hours later. One student survived the attack, which police said was carried out by six men wielding machetes.

My first reaction is just sheer anger. al Qaeda has made beheadings of “infidels” a vogue statement of Islamist faith. I can only assume that these six men are now looking forward to their rewards of virgins in paradise.

Once again, we see evil staring us in the face. It’s not because of Bush or Iraq or oil that this happened, and no amount of left-wing spin can make it so. This is sick, twisted behavior instilled in men by those who are using them to inject themselves into power.

Why should we even try to appease this “philosophy”?

UK Police at Fault? Not

Filed under: World - Nemo @ 10:33 am

All the uproar of whether the UK Police shoud apologize for shooting a non-respsonsive civilian reminds me of a Babylon 5 quote:

I apologize. I’m… sorry. [pause] I’m sorry we had to defend ourselves against an unwarranted attack. I’m sorry that your crew was stupid enough to fire on a station filled with a quarter million civilians, including your own people. And I’m sorry I waited as long as I did before I blew them all straight to hell.

Menezes was wearing a large overcoat on a hot day, failed to respond to police requests to stop and went over the turnstiles towards the tunnels and onto a train just a few days after bombing attacks in the same type of area.

What exactly should the police have thought?

Menezes death is regrettable and the family’s grief is understandable, but the police did their job.

But It’s Not Terrorism

Israel is preparing to invade Gaza if the Palestinians don’t crack down on the terrorists in their midst. Abbas continues to be unable or unwilling to stop Hamas:

Israeli Army Ordered to End Palestinian Terror

Palestinian militants have fired more than 100 projectiles at Israeli targets since Thursday, in one of the heaviest onslaughts since the two sides declared a now-moribund truce in February.

Members of Hamas are still called militants, despite the fact that they do not operate under any governmental authority, rather than terrorists, who attack civilian targets without regard to any rule of war.

Poll: Muslims want Freedom not Terror

Filed under: World - Nemo @ 8:15 pm

Outside The Beltway points to a new poll that show that Bush’s strategy may be taking hold ( Poll: Islam Religion of Peace and Democracy). Apparently the poll shows that increasingly Muslims want free expression and an independent judiciary.

Democrats thought Bush was naive to suggest that establishing a beachhead in Iraq would have repercussions around the Muslim world, but - if this research is accurate - that’s exactly what is happening. The next step, though, is action:

The real question, though, is what are Muslims willing to do to advance these preferences. Continuing to shelter and honor the terrorists certainly will not achieve them. Nor will making excuses for murder. Nor will saying, “We abhor violence” followed by a “but.”

However, progress seems to be happening. Either they really are starting to want democracy or they are at least no longer afraid to say so. This gives more hope than a military win can accomplish. Our military is doing a fine job of handling the terrorists in Iraq, but they can’t make the people want democracy. That’s up to the people themselves.

Somehow I doubt the Democrats will talk much about this poll.
