Winds of Change.NET posts on Divine Evolution, and Creationism’s Spiritual Ripoff. At its core, Joe reminds us that there is more to life than pure science and reason. We must have a spiritual dimension to truly grow as individuals and as a species.
Reading the comments, some show they already miss the point: “it’s neither verifiable nor falsifiable”. True, but that assumes a reason-only worldview, exactly what Joe is pointing out doesn’t work.
Pure science concerns itself with how things work - and only that. That is its strength and weakness. Journalists will tell you that while facts are important, so is the context of those facts. Reporting that XX troops were killed in Iraq - while ignoring the terrorists killed, the political process, the rebuilding process, etc. - doesn’t give proper context to the events. By reporting only facts about the way the world works, science limits our understanding of the universe. We need another tool for that.
Pure spirituality has its own set of problems: relativism, lack of accountability. By separating reason from fact, blind faith becomes intransigent.
Faith and reason, two sides of the coin of the human mind. Reject one or the other and we deny ourselves true growth and true greatness.
