Is the water cooler next?
We are getting closer and closer to losing our rights to political speech. A judge has ruled that two talk show hosts provided contributions on a tax initiative that must be reported.
If every talk show has value, then next every email and editorial will have value as well. Past that, every water cooler discussion could be considered a campaign contribution valuable to a campaign.
I guess all such conversations should be reported to the Election Commissions as being worth two cents, right?
If some of the bureaucrats at the FEC get their way (or the judge’s ruling in the above story stands) a some sort of monetary value will be assigned to each blog post or radio segment and that value will be applied to the author’s political contributions. Once the author reaches the max he or she can contribute they’ll have to remain silent.
